Former Roma player Abel Balbo says young forward Mattia Destro has shown he is capable of great things.

The 47-year-old is also pleased that in recent weeks the player has been partnering Francesco Totti up-front for the Giallorossi.

“Destro, as I used to, very rarely misses when in front of goal,” Balbo told Corriere dello Sport. “He is a boy with great potential.

“He knows how to do virtually everything. He has a good header on him, he finishes well and he gets into spaces.

“If he isn’t already a great centre-forward he has everything you need to become one.

“I was certain that Mattia and Totti needed to play together. They are two quality players and however similar they are they do not get in each other’s way.

“They are also two different people with different characteristics.

“Roma still need to sign another striker, but there is no reason in the world to think that Destro won’t make it at the top level.

“It’s actually easier to play in the Champions League than in the Italian League.

“It’s easier because in the Champions League you play against great teams who try to play football. That means that good strikers get more chances to score.”
