Napoli’s Faouzi Ghoulam says the chance to join the club in January was simply one he could not turn down.
The 23-year-old Algerian added that he wants to remain at San Paolo for a long time and praised the passion for football in his new home city.
“It’s incredible, everyone here already recognises me,” Ghoulam said to L’Equipe.
“Once it took me an hour to get out of a butcher’s and another time I didn’t get into the cinema in time because I was signing autographs for fans!
“I remember I once said to myself that I would like to spend my whole career at the club who developed me, but now I can see that in football you can never say never.
“When a big club wants you, if you don’t go then they sign someone else and you miss out.
“I have made a long term choice to come to Napoli, I couldn’t refuse them.
“I watched Maradona from when I was little and now it’s my turn go out onto San Paolo with that music playing!”
