David Endt, Ajax’s former team manager and Press officer, suggested the Dutch side were out for revenge against Juve in the Champions League quarter-finals on the basis of his allegation.

Deschamps was part of the Bianconeri side who beat Ajax in the 1996 Champions League Final, and the France CT was dismissive of Endt’s remarks.

“They’re always statements that can cause doubt, but there’s no need for them,” he told Sport Mediaset.

“There’s the truth of what happens on the pitch. That’s the only one that counts.”
