Mario Mandzukic had the best chances and hit the crossbar, but Juventus and Serie A leaders Inter played out a goalless draw.

This was a clash between third and first, as well as the old grudge match of the Derby d’Italia, but Max Allegri made some surprising picks for his 4-3-3 formation.

The Bianconeri left Paulo Dybala, Douglas Costa and Alex Sandro on the bench, while Gigi Buffon and Stephan Lichtsteiner were injured.

Mandzukic had the best chances of the game, as in the same move he forced a Samir Handanovic save and Joao Miranda goal-line clearance, then his header thumped the crossbar on the stroke of half-time.

Inter failed to get a shot on target in the first half and never really tested Wojciech Szczesny, as their only chance was a Mauro Icardi shot charged down by Medhi Benatia.

He wanted a penalty, but the ball ricocheted off the defender’s foot first and then struck his arm, so could not be considered handball.

The result means Napoli can get back on top of the table tomorrow with a win against Fiorentina.
