Deputy Prime Minister and Milan fan Matteo Salvini is ‘ashamed’ of Gonzalo Higuain for his red card against Juventus and ‘hopes he’s given a long ban’.

Higuain was sent off against his parent club on Sunday for lashing out at the referee, while Salvini met FIGC President Gabiele Gravina, government secretary Giancarlo Giorgetti and AIA chief Marcello Nicchi in the wake of a young official being attacked during a non-League game in Rome.

"Football is the country’s mirror,” he told reporters.
