Alessandro Del Piero admits Fiorentina and Juventus have such bitter rivalry that “it can be considered a derby.”

It kicks off on Sunday at 19.45 GMT at the Stadio Artemio Franchi.

“It can be considered a derby and I certainly see it that way. Like a derby, everything that happens before only counts to a certain degree,” Del Piero told reporters in Florence.

“I scored perhaps the most beautiful and significant goal of my career against Fiorentina. In fact, it was certainly the best goal I’ve ever scored.

“I scored perhaps the most beautiful and significant goal of my career against Fiorentina. In fact, it was certainly the best goal I’ve ever scored.

“Against them I also got the hat-trick that allowed me to beat Giampiero Boniperti’s record. There has always been a fascinating atmosphere around this game, which can be very tense at times.”

Juve are top of the Serie A table with a game in hand, but Del Piero isn’t counting a sixth straight Scudetto yet.

“The title race isn’t over, but Juventus have shown so far that they’ve got an extra gear compared to everyone else. They have quality, results and their fans are accustomed to success.

Roma and Napoli are certainly the teams that are closest to Juventus and can cause them problems.”
