Sassuolo coach Roberto De Zerbi says Alfred Duncan “wanted to be sold” after the midfielder completed a €15m move to Fiorentina.

Duncan made a transfer deadline day switch to Fiorentina after four years at Sassuolo.

“Duncan wanted to go, those who work here every day can be satisfied because if there had never been any requests for Duncan before, and now he is sold, it means good work has taken place, “said De Zerbi in his press conference.

“Duncan’s transfer is an important capital gain for the club. It means he has improved as a player.”

Roma beat Sassuolo 4-2 in their first meeting earlier in the season, with the Giallorossi being four goals up inside the opening 30 minutes, and De Zerbi says he doesn’t want a repeat performance.

“We were four goals down after 30 minutes and then we came good in the second half, but the team as a whole and how those four goals came about was wrong.

“But there is no feeling of revenge for the first game.”

De Zerbi expects a difficult game against Roma.

“Roma are a strong team that play with a particular style of football and we must pay attention to that.

“We must try to play the game with courage, by not making simple mistakes because we did well in the first game against them, but we paid the price in some situations heavily and they conditioned the game.

“Tomorrow we will want to try and not make the same mistakes."

Alessandro Florenzi recently departed Roma for Valencia, what’s De Zerbi’s opinion on the transfer?

“As a nostalgic, I’m sorry to see Roma without Francesco Totti and Daniele De Rossi, but these are issues that don’t concern me. It’s not my business.”
