Mattia De Sciglio’s agent reveals there was a deal for him to leave Milan for Juventus last year.

The full-back joined the Bianconeri this week for a fee of €12m, but the transfer could have happened 12 months earlier.

Mattia De Sciglio’s agent reveals there was a deal for him to leave Milan for Juventus last year.

The full-back joined the Bianconeri this week for a fee of €12m, but the transfer could have happened 12 months earlier.

“It’s a move that was defined last July,” Giovanni Branchini explained to MilanNews.

“Juventus had a deal with then-CEO of the Rossoneri, Adriano Galliani, for a loan with option to buy for Mattia.

“The negotiations were underway for the sale of the club, I don’t know if Galliani had a rethink or it was the incoming Mr [Marco] Fassone who later took over, but that deal was cancelled for the good of everyone.

“From then on there were no contacts. In January 2016 we were in the position where De Sciglio’s contract was expiring, and we calmly announced our decision not to renew with Milan, not least because we didn’t want to leave the club unprepared.

“We were thinking of leaving a long time before the expiration of his contract, and that choice was made regardless of the teams interested of Milan’s renewal offers.

“For a lad who had been at the club since he was 16, it was the right moment to leave. Relations with Milan have always been friendly and correct.

“Juventus came in again on Monday of last week, so about 10 days ago. From that moment on the negotiation was concrete and we arrived at this solution.”
