The Roma midfielder missed this morning’s session after this injury against Spain, sparking fears that he would miss out on the Quarter-Final altogether.

However, the 32-year-old did take part in the afternoon session in Montpellier, giving cause for some cautious optimism.

Despite that, Calciomercato reports that the session consisted of dead ball training, so wasn’t as arduous as a full sesssion.

While that makes it unlikely that De Rossi will be available from the start, there is now growing hope that he will at least be able to make the bench.

Antonio Candreva continues to struggle with an adductor injury, and may not even return in time for the final, should Italy progress that far.
