According to the Corriere dello Sport, he invited teammates and staff to dinner on Thursday night and made a speech, claiming that while he would like to carry on playing, he hasn’t received any concrete offers yet.
There have been links with MLS clubs, Paris Saint-Germain and even Boca Juniors.
Roma fans have been protesting club owner James Pallotta’s decision to not offer the midfielder a contract extension, believing that he disrespected a legend.
The World Cup winner played 615 times for the Giallorossi since making his debut in a Champions League tie against Anderlecht in October 2001, however, he managed to get on the field just 22 times this season in all competitions.
It would not be entirely unusual for De Rossi to hang up his boots this summer, as he will turn 36 in July.
“Every season I think this’ll be the last, that I can’t do it anymore, that it hurts too much, but then after a couple of weeks on the beach, I get antsy again,” he said a few months ago.
