Daniele De Rossi will undergo tests on the thigh injury he picked up on international duty, but early reports suggest he could be out for a month.

The Roma midfielder was at full stretch in an attempt to block Bulgaria’s second goal in the 2-2 draw last night in Sofia.

He immediately clutched the back of his right thigh, but Italy had just completed all their substitutions, so he tried to limp on for a few minutes before giving up.

“De Rossi wanted to go back on the field. We were the ones who told him not to risk it,” revealed Coach Cesare Prandelli.

It is confirmed the midfielder will go back to Rome rather than stay with the Azzurri squad for Tuesday’s friendly against Malta.

Initial reports in Il Messaggero newspaper suggest a lesion to the right femoral bicep muscle, which could keep De Rossi out for up to a month.

Roma have already lost Michael Bradley and Federico Balzaretti to muscular problems this season.
