Roma are expected to make an official announcement within the next 24 hours, but initial reports indicate that their talismanic midfielder will be out of the League fixtures with Bologna, Cagliari and Sampdoria, and could even miss the away trip to Juventus on September 29.

Zdenek Zeman's side have made a positive start to the Serie A campaign, trouncing Inter and picking up four points from the first six available.

Cesare Prandelli meanwhile, is expected to give Antonio Nocerino a start in place of De Rossi for the game against Malta in Modena.
