Roma’s Daniele De Rossi is pleased with Coach Rudi Garcia’s renewal at the club but doesn’t know whether Mehdi Benatia will stay or leave.

The French tactician this week signed a contract extension with the Giallorossi that will keep him at Stadio Olimpico until 2018.

Speaking at an Italy national team Press conference, the 30-year-old said he was always confident the former Lille boss would remain with the Serie A runners-up.

“I’m happy, I think you know that anyone who has anything to do with Roma has got to be happy with his renewal,” De Rossi told reporters.

“I was sure he would stay because I’d asked him beforehand and he said yes. I don’t think he would have lied to me.”

The Azzurri midfielder was then asked about club teammate Benatia, who appears to be pushing for a move away from the Giallorossi.

“Even I was disrupted by the transfer market last year. The important thing is that yesterday Sabatini talked about Benatia as a man, a player, a professional and about the desire he has always shown while on the pitch for Roma.

“I don’t know how it will finish but if he does stay at Roma, no fan should think any less of him.

“He has given, as well as what he has done on the pitch, more than us Romans from a human point of view.”
