Daniele De Rossi has denied that an argument with Roma teammate Simon Kjaer was the reason behind both men sitting in the stands at the weekend.

The Italian international, who is set to feature in the Azzurri’s midweek friendly with the USA, was forced to sit out the Giallorossi’s 4-1 defeat to Atalanta on Sunday afternoon, as was defender Kjaer.

Where Luis Enrique confirmed after the game that it was because he was late for that day’s team meeting – something later backed up by the club – De Rossi has still been forced to deny it was for any other reason, as rumours have persisted.

“I’m sorry for what happened,” the 28-year-old told Raisport 1 on Monday. “There is nothing to hide, I know that in Rome a little bit of chaos is being generated and I’m sorry.

“The Coach and the club explained what happened. There was no fight with Kjaer, I did not harm anyone. I have no problem with Luis Enrique, he showed yesterday that he does not overlook anyone and I like that.

“I’ve always felt comfortable with him and continue to trust him. I hope the fans also have confidence in him. We need only think of the game on Sunday.”

Roma face Lazio in the season’s second Rome derby of the season next weekend.
