Roma could field Daniele De Rossi in central defence for their trip to Napoli if the club’s injury situation doesn’t improve.

The Giallorossi have a mounting crisis in the centre of defence, with Davide Astori and Leandro Castan certain to miss the game through injury.

Doubts remain over Kostas Manolas too and he will undergo a fitness test today on a knee injury sustained in the win over Cesena.

According to the Corriere della Sera, the fact that Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa is the Giallorossi’s only fit centre-back could lead Coach Rudi Garcia to drop De Rossi into defence to partner the Frenchman against Napoli on Saturday.

De Rossi ordinarily plays in central midfield, but played a number of games at the heart of the defence for Cesare Prandelli’s Italy during Euro 2012.

The newspaper states that Seydou Keita will take up De Rossi’s place just in front of the back four should the Italy international be deployed in the backline.
