Daniele De Rossi held back on Scudetto talk, but named Marco Borriello as “the example” followed by Roma.

“This is the best part of our job. It’s not always like this and it’s precocious to talk about anything else, but we are doing great things,” he told Sky Sport Italia after celebrating a 2-0 victory over Napoli with the fans.

De Rossi was crucial, as he performed a first half goalline clearance on Goran Pandev.

“Morgan De Sanctis stayed up until the end and once again proved he’s phenomenal. He can save you the game. If he hadn’t got a hand to it, I wouldn’t have reached the ball even on a motorbike!

“We worked hard, all together on the field and off it. You defend with 11 men and I want to thank Borriello, who at the start of the season was meant to be going all over the place, but he sets the best example in the team.

“He trains hard, is an ideal professional and always has a smile. Despite getting absurdly jeered by the fans, he has proved decisive and always gave 100 per cent.”

The Giallorossi have now won their opening eight games, something only Juventus achieved on three occasions in the past.

“We won 11 in a row once and finished fifth, so these runs of victories count only to a certain degree,” noted De Rossi.

“They are nice, but without consistency throughout the season they’re worth little.”
