In a surprising move, Matthijs de Ligt has left Turin and returned to the Netherlands with his girlfriend, so Juventus now have nine players abroad.

A video posted on Instagram by AnneKee Molenaar showed them jogging through the Dutch countryside, while another photograph confirmed they had brought along their dog, Luna.

De Ligt and his partner had been in lockdown in Turin during the coronavirus pandemic, but have now gone abroad.

This means that the player will have to go into quarantine for 14 days after returning to Italy.

He’s not alone, as Juventus have Cristiano Ronaldo, Douglas Costa, Danilo, Alex Sandro, Gonzalo Higuain, Sami Khedira, Adrien Rabiot and Wojciech Szczesny currently abroad.

Individual training will be allowed from May 4, but not in a training ground until May 18, a decision that has infuriated clubs and the Players’ Association.
