“If you were at the Amsterdam Arena [home of Ajax] things would be the same, it happened even in my day,” De Boer shrugged.
“I’m used to pressure. I understand the expectations and that results are important, but with our philosophy we hope to play good football too.

“I’m used to pressure. I understand the expectations and that results are important, but with our philosophy we hope to play good football too.
“If you can bring together results and good football the fans will be happier, but of course the results are the most important thing.
“Adapting to Italy? Obviously we’ve come here on holiday, and it’s a different place from Barcelona, but not by so much.
“The culture is different, but you still play 11 v 11, we’re professionals, all that counts is winning games and that’s what we’ll do.
“Could I have gone to Milan? No, no. Absolutely not. I read about it on the internet but there was never any contact.”
De Boer also spared a moment for his predeccessor, Roberto Mancini.
“Obviously I wish him the best for his career. I think he did very great things at Inter, also in the past.
“Right now he probably couldn’t put them on the right track, but everyone here has the utmost respect for Roberto and we send him our best wishes because that’s what he deserves.
“He’s a great Coach.”
