Inter chief executive Michael Bolingbroke says “it was necessary to change” but Roberto Mancini’s departure was “amicable’.

The Coach officially left the Nerazzurri yesterday, with former Ajax boss Frank de Boer replacing him on the Nerazzurri bench.

“The first thing to say is when we hired Roberto 22 months ago it was because he was the right person,” Bolingbroke told reporters at De Boer’s presentation.

“In the past few months he achieved excellent results, he took us into Europe and we thank him for his efforts. We then arrived at a point where we thought it was necessary to change.

“We reached an agreement with Roberto harmoniously and we wish him the best for the future. The most important thing is Inter and having the right structure.

“We separated amicably with Roberto.”

Bolingbroke opened the Press conference by officially introducing De Boer to the media.

“I’m pleased to welcome De Boer, he has a wealth of experience as a player and a Coach.

“He played over 100 matches for the [Dutch] national team, and over 400 for Ajax, he won practically everything in his career.

“He also played successfully at Barcelona, Galatasaray and Rangers. Frank led Ajax to four consecutive titles in the Eredivisie.

“We have high expectations, his enthusiasm impressed everyone – me, the directors, [Erick] Thohir and Suning.

“We love his style of attacking, aggressive football which will make a difference and take the club to where it deserves to be.

“We want to win every competition, but above all we want to return to the Champions League and stay there. That’s a very important objective for us as a club.

“We have excellent players, but there are two weeks to go until the start of the season.”
