Lecce coach Roberto D’Aversa looked to calm comparisons between his team and the Leicester City side that won the Premier League.

Claudio Ranieri famously guided the Foxes to the most unexpected Premier League title in history back in the 2015-16 season, their first ever topflight title in their 139-year history.

Lecce have hit the ground running this season, remaining undefeated in their first five games after wins over Lazio, Salernitana and Genoa, and draws with Fiorentina and Monza.

Speaking in a press conference today via TMW, D’Aversa was asked about the comparisons between his Lecce and Ranieri’s Premier League winning Leicester.

“It’s good and right that there’s enthusiasm. This must not turn into euphoria. Fans are free to dream, but we have to keep our concentration high. I look at the statistics and we are improving certain negative figures.

“Positive results have come by virtue of the right attitude. I have always found enthusiasm, and this must help us. Leicester had totally different revenues, I think Lecce have received much less…

“These are comparisons that cannot exist. We cannot think we are better than Juventus, so we have to be determined and willing.”

Lecce currently sit one point ahead of their next opponents Juventus, who are desperate for a strong response after falling in a painful 4-2 loss to Sassuolo, a match wrought with Bianconeri errors.

When these two teams met last season, Lecce suffered a 1-0 loss at home and a 2-1 loss away.
