Matteo Darmian is “very proud to play for a club like Manchester United” but admits “I miss Italy a lot”.

The full-back has been touted for a return to Serie A, with Juventus, Napoli and Inter keen to sign him in the summer and Lazio linked with a January move.

The 29-year-old has struggled to break into Jose Mourinho’s side, who have endured a difficult start to the season, making just two Premier League starts.

“It hasn’t been a perfect start to the season,” Darmian admitted.

“There are still a lot of games left and we’ll try to reduce the gap to the leaders. I’m happy to be back playing, but the most important thing is to win.

“We need to improve our results, I’m very proud to play for a club like Manchester United, even if I miss Italy a lot.”
