Daniel Maldini is the second Maldini to play against Milan at San Siro, but the first member of his family to score in this stadium since his father Paolo in March 2008.

The 21-year-old started for Spezia, where he is on loan this season, and scored the equaliser with a well-placed right-foot curler into the far bottom corner.

The only previous Maldini to have played against Milan in this arena was his grandfather Cesare, starting for Torino on January 8, 1967 in a 1-1 draw.

No member of the Maldini family had found the net at San Siro since Daniel’s father Paolo, who was watching on from the stands this evening in his role as Milan technical director.

Paolo was on target in Milan’s 2-1 home defeat to Atalanta on March 30, 2008, which was precisely 5,333 days ago.

At that time, Daniel was six years old, as he was born in October 2001.

Curiously, the only other goal Daniel Maldini scored in Serie A was for Milan away to Spezia on September 25, 2021.
