The Japan international midfielder’s contract expires in December, so the Rossoneri seem ready to wait until he becomes a free agent.

“The situation has not changed. Honda can talk to another club at the moment because the rules permit it, but we are ready to let him go earlier faced with a reasonable offer,” director general Roman Babaev told Sport Express.

“We are glad that Milan are showing interest, but also need to be realistic about the fact his contract is out in six months.

“We are not worried about him potentially leaving us on a free transfer. The ball is in Milan’s court now.”

Everton were also interested in Honda, but the player appears to have given his word to the Rossoneri.
