Juventus sold Cristiano Ronaldo to Manchester United and the Portuguese star almost single-handedly increased the wage bill at Old Trafford by over 20 per cent.

According to The Mirror newspaper, CR7 earns £550,000 per week and this is largely responsible for a huge boost in the money paid out by this club on wages.

With his arrival, the signings of Raphael Varane, Jadon Sancho and Tom Heaton, the Manchester United wage bill has surged by almost £1.3m per week.

That is a 23.1 per cent increase on the amount the club was paying out in salaries at this time last year.

Ronaldo was the highest-paid player in Serie A history on a reported €30m per season contract with Juventus.

Now he is also the highest-paid player in the history of the Premier League, transferring over his contract to Manchester United.

The 36-year-old has certainly made an impact on the field as well as off it since making the move, as he scored nine goals in 12 games for Manchester United this season between the Premier League and the Champions League.
