Hernan Crespo reflected on the importance of the Supercoppa Italiana and gave his thoughts on Rafael Leao and Lautaro Martinez.

Milan and Inter will battle it out for the Supercoppa on Wednesday January 18th in Riyadh, competing for the first silverware of the season. The Nerazzurri are the holders, having beaten Juventus in dramatic fashion last year.

The two Milanese clubs played out a Derby della Madonnina in the Supercoppa Italiana final back in 2011, when the Rossoneri came out 2-1 winners.

Speaking to Tuttosport, Crespo first discussed what the Supercoppa meant during his playing career.

“I remember in my times winning the Supercoppa, above all at Inter or Milan, was the last objective. But I also remember Galliani’s face when Milan won in 2016 in Qatar. I believe that tomorrow’s game has important weight for both clubs.”

The former striker then discussed the qualities of Milan star Leao.

“On the open pitch he is scary, who knows why Portugal used him so little at the World Cup.”

Finally, Crespo gave his thoughts on Inter striker Lautaro Martinez and his disappointing tournament in Qatar.

“My heart is with him, unfortunately in Qatar he wasn’t the real deal but in my opinion,  he didn’t do badly either.”

Both Inter and Milan are hot on the heels of league leaders Napoli, who hold a nine point lead over second in the Serie A table. The Partenopei look on track to win their first Scudetto in over three decades, since the days of Diego Maradona.
