Fiorentina director general Pantaleo Corvino admits Milan Badelj “is not convinced of renewing”.

The midfielder can leave on a free in the summer, with his current deal expiring on June 30, but the Viola have been attempting to convince him to extend his contract.

“We have an extraordinary relationship, we with him and him with us,” Corvino told SportItalia.

“As the intelligent people that we are, we know we can’t put pressure on him in his choice.

“We have an extraordinary relationship, we with him and him with us,” Corvino told SportItalia.

“As the intelligent people that we are, we know we can’t put pressure on him in his choice.

“We’ve talked about it and I think he’s still dubious as to what to do, he’s not convinced of renewing but we’ll wait without great pressure on players.”

Fiorentina have also ben linked with Tomáš Souček of Slavia Prague, a 22-year-old Czech international.

“The January market is always very barren, and we need to pay attention to opportunities to improve the squad.

“It’s not easy, not because we can’t be improved but because the transfer market isn’t offering up many opportunities.

“Everything can be improved but you need opportunities, and as I’ve said there aren’t many of them.

“As for Souček, we have Badelj as the starter and [Carlos] Sanchez as an alternative, but we have to think that in the future there may be players [Sanchez] who are aiming for the World Cup and want to play more so as not to lose their chance.

“We’re following Souček, it’s pointless denying it, but he’s not the only one.”
