Reports in Italy suggest the Dutch Federation spoke to Antonio Conte to see if he’d be a good fit for the Netherlands job, but he wants to wait for a club role.

The coach is a free agent after terminating his contract with Inter by mutual consent, despite winning the Serie A title.

As part of the agreement, he cannot sign up to another Serie A club for the 2021-22 season.

He has been linked with Paris Saint-Germain, Tottenham Hotspur, Manchester United and Real Madrid positions over the summer, all to no avail.

According to Italian sports presenter Maurizio Pistocchi, even the Dutch Football Federation approached Conte to see if he’d be interested in taking over following their flop at UEFA EURO 2020.

Frank de Boer was axed after they crashed out at the Round of 16 in a 2-0 defeat to the Czech Republic, but he had only arrived in September 2020.

However, Conte was seemingly waiting for a club offer to come along instead.

He does have experience as an international coach, leading Italy to the EURO 2016 quarter-finals.
