Antonio Conte’s agent is reportedly locked in talks with Real Madrid President Florentino Perez as it emerges Julen Lopetegui did not take training on Monday.

According to ANSA, the representative is already in Madrid to negotiate Conte’s contract ahead of Perez holding a board meeting at 17:00 GMT – an hour earlier than first thought.

Lopetegui would have also not taken training on Monday morning, in another sign that the Spaniard’s tenure is all-but-over ahead of Wednesday’s Copa del Rey tie with lower-League side Melilla.

However, the agency warns Chelsea are standing by their decision to sack the former Juventus and Italy boss on the grounds of just cause.

That would be because the Blues feel he ‘devalued’ Diego Costa after their feud, resulting in the striker moving back to Atletico Madrid.

ANSA notes the same applies to Alvaro Morata, who has struggled badly since joining from Los Blancos in a €66m deal last year.
