The Rossoneri remain in the midst of an ownership crisis, with current owner Yonghong Li having missed numerous deadlines over repayments but clinging onto power.

And with Elliott Management, the firm Li owes, now seemingly in control of affairs at the San Siro, Commisso faces a tough task if he is to acquire the seven-time European champions.

“I need to be wary of what I say because most of these negotiations are private,” Commisso told Gazzetta dello Sport.

“I want to close this deal, but we are still not there. We were extremely close to signing a pre-agreement.

“Am I confident? I’m not in control of the result.”

Commisso admitted that negotiations have become ‘complicated,’ although he still views Li as President despite his predicament.

“Is everything more complicated? It probably is.

“We don’t know what path Mr Li will take with Mr Singer. It’s difficult to predict how things will conclude.

“Until someone tells me otherwise, I think that Milanis still in the hands of Li.

“It will probably have to go before a court, but right now he is the owner.”

The Italo-American businessman also admitted he is Juventus fan.

“I have the money, I know sport well, I was a Juventino, but Juve are going very well don’t need me.

“I will have to put in a lot of work. I won’t arrive in Italy thinking I already know everything or more than other people who have spent a long time there.

“I need to study, but I am someone who learns quickly.”

Commisso revealed his admiration for Milan Coach Rino Gattuso and sees similarities between them.

“I like him a lot. When I played on the pitch for ColumbiaI was like him.

“Well, I definitely wasn’t as good, but I was very physical and we are also both Calabrian.

“I have heard that I could be the only Italian emigrant owner in Serie A, if it ever happens.

“I want Italian football to have success and I don’t want to see the national team out of the World Cup.”
