The Italian association for the protection of consumer rights has called for Italy CT Antonio Conte to be suspended.

CODACONS, which is linked to CONI, the Italian Olympic Association, has called for the suspension of the Azzurri boss after he was indicted for alleged sporting fraud.

“Being called by the prosecutor should inevitably lead to the precautionary suspension of Antonio Conte from the position of national team Coach,” the organisation said in a statement.

“This measure is in relation to an accusation in a criminal case being levelled at a public official, directly related to the specific requirements of their administrative function, and the public administration in which the affected person is employed.

“This applies even in cases where the subject is involved in criminal proceedings which don’t require arrest if they were indicted for acts which are directly related to the employment relationship.

“For these reasons, while CODACONS is certain Conte is not involved in the acts of the criminal investigation, we ask the Cremona prosecutor for an interim suspension of Antonio Conte from his current position as national team Coach.”

The organisation involved itself because the FIGC is partly funded by taxpaers, through CONI.

FIGC President Carlo Tavecchio has already thrown his backing behind Conte, and expects him to remain as CT.
