Juventus continue their attempts to end the decades-long Champions League drought and start in a group with Atletico Madrid, who they beat 3-2 on aggregate thanks to a Cristiano Ronaldo hat-trick in the Round of 16 last season.

Bayer Leverkusen and Lokomotiv Moscow complete Juve’s Group D.

Napoli were second seeds and hoping to avoid another nightmare draw in a Group of Death, which saw them narrowly squeezed out over the last two years.

Carlo Ancelotti’s men were paired with Liverpool for the second year running, having been narrowly eliminated by the eventual trophy winners in the group phase last season.

They are joined by RB Salzburg, who the Partenopei faced in the Europa League last season, and Belgians KRC Genk.

Inter had a strong start to the Serie A season under new Coach Antonio Conte, but were third seeds in the draw, so entered a group with Barcelona, Borussia Dortmund and Slavia Prague.

It is the first ever Champions League experience for Atalanta, who had an astonishing campaign last term, finishing third in Serie A and reaching the Coppa Italia Final.

The Stadio Azzurri d’Italia in Bergamo is currently undergoing restructuring work to become the Gewiss Arena, so they have been given permission to play their European home games at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza in Milan, commonly referred to as San Siro.

Atalanta are in Group C with Manchester City, Shakhtar Donetsk and Dinamo Zagreb.

UEFA also handed out the awards for Champions League Player of the Year, going to Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson Becker, his teammate in defence Virgil van Dijk, midfielder Frenkie de Jong of Ajax and Barcelona forward Lionel Messi.
