Giorgio Chiellini says Italy go to Euro 2016 “with the knowledge we can do something important, even if it seems impossible”.

The Azzurri are without Claudio Marchisio and Marco Verratti for the tournament in France this summer, with many playing down their chances.

However, after coming back to win the Scudetto with club side Juventus, the centre-back is looking to take the same spirit to the national team.

“What will I take from this season with Juventus?” Chiellini considered at a sponsors’ event.

“The knowledge we can do something important, even if it seems impossible. That’s what we have to convey to our teammates in the national team.

“It will be a great group and we’ll give everything. Unfortunately, injuries are just part of the game.

“When the CT [Antonio] Conte chooses his 23 we’ll go to France with the desire to do well. We’ve started from second on the grid on other occasions, it doesn’t change anything for us.

“What matters is being aware of our strengths and our weaknesses: we’ll be prepared in France.”
