Giorgio Chiellini admits he ‘immediately realised’ that his injury could keep him out of the Champions League final.

The defender was ruled out of tomorrow’s clash in Berlin yesterday, after scans showed he had sustained a calf injury.

“Thank you for the many messages of affection I’ve received,” Chiellini wrote on SportLobster.

“Playing in the Champions League final is a dream, which like myself, millions of children have had, but sometimes destiny is weird.

“Playing in the Champions League final is a dream, which like myself, millions of children have had, but sometimes destiny is weird.

“I immediately realised the importance of the injury. I hoped to be wrong, or to be able to recover in record time, as I have already done other times, but this time it was really impossible.

Juventus is made up of great men and great players, I’m sure my team will fight out on the pitch more than ever.

“They will show the world the grit, the strength and the determination I would have put in for this final, and all together we will be able to achieve this dream.

“My friends, I will be with you tomorrow to cheer and to suffer for only one goal – winning this trophy.

“Winning is not important, it’s the only thing that matters.

“Fino alla fine ['until the end', the Juventus motto]!”
