Juventus defender Giorgio Chiellini admits “it’s important to go through early” in the Champions League.

The Bianconeri can secure qualification and go top of the group with a win over Manchester City tomorrow, and the Italian international is keen to secure progress as soon as possible.

“We have match point at home,” Chiellini explained, speaking to Mediaset.

“We could go through on Wednesday, and it’s important to get there early to avoid the top teams in the Last 16.

“We could go through on Wednesday, and it’s important to get there early to avoid the top teams in the Last 16.

“That said, last year we came second and got to the final, the time we came first, we knocked out Chelsea [in the group] and then went out [to Bayern Munich in the quarter-finals].

“So anything can happen, but it’s always best to go through early.

“Juve are not quite in the best four teams, but if you remember last year we we were almost ruled-out of the Last 16 in November against Olympiacos.

“Then we went through along with Atletico [Madrid] and no-one expected that team to reach the final.”

Chiellini also discussed perceived similarities between Paulo Dybala and Carlos Tevez.

“I think they’re very different players. They came one after the other, and they’re both Argentinian, but their characteristics are different.

“Dybala reminds me a bit of [Vincenzo] Montella, but just let him be Dybala.”
