Andreas Ekberg will oversee today’s Champions League match between Inter and Viktoria Plzen, here’s a profile of the young Swedish referee.

Ekberg, 37, will officiate his first-ever Inter game at San Siro today when the Nerazzurri host Viktoria Plzen at 17.45 UK time.

The Swedish official has refereed seven Champions League matches in his career. This is also the first time he oversees a game involving a Serie A club in Europe’s elite competition.

Roma won one European game with Ekberg on the pitch, while Sampdoria lost one and Milan and Sassuolo picked up a draw each.

Ekberg’s most relevant game at an international level was the UEFA Youth League Final between Chelsea and Barcelona in 2017-18.

The match between Inter and Viktoria Plzen at the Stadio Meazza is his second match in Champions League this season after Benfica-Maccabi Haifa last month.

A win in today’s match will be enough for the Nerazzurri to qualify for the Champions League Round of 16 with a game to spare for the second season running.
