Here’s what Milan need to qualify for the Champions League round of 16 following their defeats against Chelsea.

The Rossoneri suffered back-to-back defeats against the Blues at Stamford Bridge and San Siro and currently sit third in Group E, two points behind RB Salzburg and three behind the Premier League giants.

Stefano Pioli’s side meets Dinamo Zagreb away in the next match and a win would allow the Diavoli to jump to second place if Salzburg lose against Chelsea.

At that point, a draw in the last home match against the Austrians would be enough to qualify for the Round of 16.

If Salzburg draw against Chelsea and Milan win in Croatia, a draw in the last match at San Siro would be enough, but only if the Rossoneri have a better overall goal difference given that the points in head-to-head matches, goal difference in head-to-head matches and goal scored in head-to-head matches would be the same.

What if Milan collect a draw against Dinamo Zagreb? They’d need to win against Salzburg in the last game at San Siro, but only if the Austrian don’t beat Chelsea.

On the other hand, the Rossoneri could already be eliminated with a defeat in Croatia in two weeks if Chelsea lose away at RB Salzburg.

Below are the tiebreakers that will be considered if two teams finish level on points after six games.

– points in head-to-head matches among the tied teams
– goal difference in head-to-head matches among the tied teams
– goals scored in head-to-head matches among the tied teams
– overall goal difference
– overall goals scored
– overall away goals scored
– overall wins
– overall away wins
– disciplinary points
– UEFA club coefficient
