Inter are on the verge of qualifying for the Champions League Round of 16, which could bring in the funds necessary to lock PSG, Chelsea and Tottenham target Milan Skriniar down to a new contract.

The Nerazzurri need only a win against Viktoria Plzen at San Siro to secure their spot with a round to spare, sending Barcelona into the Europa League for the second season in a row.

Merely qualifying for the knockouts would be worth circa €20m, and while it won’t be enough to boost the club coffers for a January signing, it could benefit them in other ways.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, that money would be used to boost the contract offer for Skriniar, who is eager to renew his deal, despite seeing proposals worth much more from Paris Saint-Germain, Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur.

The original salary he had agreed was worth circa €5m per season, but that was before the strong interest from these other sides.

Inter will therefore have to increase that, but not to the level of matching the reported €9m per season on offer from PSG, most likely just over €6m plus bonuses.

Skriniar’s current contract only runs to June 2023, so in theory he could begin negotiating a free transfer from February.
