Alessio Cerci has refused to blame Atletico Madrid Coach Diego Simeone for his failure to make an impact in La Liga.

The winger has joined Milan on an 18 month loan deal, with Fernando Torres heading in the opposite direction. The Italian international failed to make a single League start in his time in Spain, but insists he bears no bitterness.

“When things go wrong, it’s never the Coach’s fault,” Cerci explained in a Press conference to confirm his Milan signing.

“It’s the player’s fault. I always made myself available, but I arrived on the last day of the transfer window and I wasn’t in top condition.

“I tried to get back to top form as soon as possible, but when you’re at a club where things are going so well it’s difficult to displace players.

“I blame myself, I tried to change the Coach’s mind, but I didn’t succeed.”

The former Torino man also expanded on rumours that he had wanted to join Inter, rather than the Rossoneri.

“If I’m here then I’m here for a reason. I’m here at Milan, and I’m happy to be here, there’s nothing else to say.

“At Inter there would be competition too, it’s the same everywhere.

“The two clubs in Milan wanted me, and that made me proud. I’m a respectful guy, I’m not going to say here whether [Inter Coach Roberto] Mancini called me or not.

“What was said [with Milan] will remain between us. The fact they rate me highly, and they wanted me in the summer too was important.

“In football that’s always the most important thing, that you have the esteem of the club, the Coach, the doctors – everyone.

“I have a Coach [Filippo Inzaghi] who is crazy about me, that just doesn’t happen in football today. I’m in the best position I could possibly be to express myself to the fullest. I thank the Coach for his beautiful words, now I have to perform.”
