“First of all I want to say that the committees studying the situation and talking to the clubs are completely independent,” Ceferin stressed, speaking to Marca.

“First of all I want to say that the committees studying the situation and talking to the clubs are completely independent,” Ceferin stressed, speaking to Marca.
“For me it’s complicated to enter this discussion, I can’t comment but I hope there’s no problem.”
Ceferin then discussed the intended impact of FFP.
“We can’t put all European teams on the same level, we’re trying to reduce the distance. We must work hand in hand with the clubs, the Federations, and the leagues.
“We know that Maribor will never be Real Madrid, but clubs need to understand that the rules are the same for everyone.
“When I speak with [Juventus President Andrea] Agnelli, the head of the ECA, he understands it. The big clubs want everything to be under control too.
“It can’t be that a club has 186 players on its books, as happens now. It’s not logical, with some of them on six or seven year contracts at 38. It manipulates the competitions.
“I’m talking about the Slovenian league, where clubs have turnovers of about €2-3m. Then Maribor come along having earned €20m in the Champions League.
“Do they then buy all the players? The problem is finding a balance for the big teams and the small teams.
“We’re discussing a new Financial Fair Play. The first thing could be to limit the number of players per club, prohibit loans and introduce a new luxury tax.
“You’d pay a fine when you spend more than you can, and that would then be redistributed to the other clubs.”
