Former Fiorentina president Vittorio Cecchi Gori wasn’t too concerned with the loss of Dusan Vlahovic.

The 79-year-old Italian was the president of the Viola from 1993 to 2002, taking over from his father Mario, who was also a famous film producer. He is considered a controversial figure by Fiorentina fans due to his poor management of the club.

Speaking to TuttoMercatoWeb and other media outlets, Cecchi Gori first discussed the current state of Fiorentina.

“Fiorentina are doing well, even if this is their standard. I don’t know if Europe is possible, I think it’s difficult.

“Let’s see against my friend Aurelio De Laurentiis, who has built a strong Napoli in recent years, I think they’re good.”

He touched on the general level of Italian football, something that has become a hot topic in recent weeks following the failure to qualify for the World Cup.

“Of course, in my day we had a higher level. We had Toldo, Chiesa, Batistuta, Torricelli and many others.

“I don’t know if the problem is just money, which is still a lot. It’s a bit less, it means that instead of playing 10 steaks a day they’ll be eating nine.”

He gave his thoughts on the €80m deal that brought Vlahovic to Juventus from Fiorentina.

“For me it was a very good sale, they did well to sell him. I don’t think he can still make a difference as a striker. Piatek is replacing him well, he’s scored a lot of goals.”

The former Fiorentina president gave his thoughts on the club’s new logo, which has divided fans with it’s more minimalistic design.

“I don’t think the logo bothers me much. I’m in favour of going back to tradition. When I was a kid I was a Fiorentina fan and I remember them having that logo. But that doesn’t mean that it can’t be changed.”

Finally, Cecchi Gori gave his thoughts on the number of American club owners in Italian football.

“It’s another mentality, another world. They are trying to invest, they have the American mentality. They want to rebuild stadiums at all costs.

“By the way, the sports centre they are rebuilding is in the same area that I bought. There’s no heart in these operations, but that’s fine. You can’t expect everyone to be like Sensi at Roma or the lawyer Agnelli at Juventus.”

  1. This the guy that made me fall in serie a in the 90s. Chairman sitting in the stands like ceaser ready to give the thumbs down.

Coaches smoking cigars and cigs on the bench. The wild colours and flags.

Those halcyon days won’t return but i still get a buzz when somebody scores, jumps over the hoardings with teammates and subs in tracksuits chasing him.
