Juventus legend Franco Causio believes that his former club should have tried to sign Antonio Cassano and Giampaolo Pazzini in January.

The Sampdoria duo both left Marassi last month when Cassano joined Milan and Pazzini signed for Italian champions Inter.

Juventus, on the other hand, netted Luca Toni and Alessandro Matri in an effort to spruce up their attacking options.

"Pazzini and Cassano are two great players," the 1982 World Cup winner noted. "If I was a Juventus official I would have signed them, it would have been worth the financial sacrifice."

The Old Lady were somewhat economically handicapped though, as their free capture of Toni and their loan swoop for Cagliari's Matri underlined.

"Matri isn't a player who can make the difference," Causio added. "He is a player who needs a champion alongside him, otherwise he doesn't make an impact.

"His €18m valuation seems a lot and I'm not sure whether he is worth it, although I don't really want to say whether he is worth it or not.

"I just wish him all the best and hope that he scores the goals that many in Turin are not at the moment."

Matri will face former club Cagliari on Saturday after making his debut at Palermo on Wednesday night.
