Catania’s Pietro Lo Monaco has hinted that talks with Milan over the January transfer of Maxi Lopez are not yet completed.

Reports earlier this week had suggested that that two teams were close to an agreement that would see the Argentine striker move to San Siro in the winter transfer window, if the Rossoneri fail to capture primary target Carlos Tevez.

However, even as the finer details of the proposed deal were being reported on Friday – TuttoMercatoWeb speculating it is a free loan with an agree future fee of between €6-7m – Catania sporting director Lo Monaco suggested to milannews.it that the two clubs are not yet on the same page.

“We know nothing, there are always the same talks. Catania’s position is clear and everyone knows what it is.

“We [Adriano Galliani and Lo Monaco] are together at the Lega and we speak about a lot of things, also about Maxi Lopez, yes. Meetings with Milan? I do not know, nothing is planned.

“Would I recommend Galliani to buy Maxi? Giving advice to Galliani is the last thing I can do, as he is the most successful CEO in Italy. I can only say that Maxi is an important player, young and is a good prospect.

“Tevez? I honestly do not know what the Milan’s strategies are. Tevez is a great player, but is of a significant cost and he cannot play in the Champions League this season. Milan already have important players up-front.”
