The club have announced on Friday afternoon that 24-year-old Cerci is unavailable for selection for at least a week after picking up a thigh injury in training.

It means the player misses the chance to face former side Roma who visit the Stadio Artemio Franchi this weekend.

The injury news comes after the player’s involvement for that game was already in doubt amid speculation that he would have been benched as punishment from Delio Rossi. This follows two recent instances of indiscipline involving the No 7.

Alongside Andrea Lazzari, the youngster was fined a week ago for going against club procedure after returning two hours later than an agreed time from a night out celebrating a teammate’s birthday.

Then, Cerci missed training on Tuesday this week after missing a flight back to Florence from a permitted trip to Barcelona on the Monday. Locally based Press believed that as a result it was most likely that Rossi would be dropping the player from the first team as punishment.
