Gaetano Castrovilli was so tormented by VAR disallowing his late equaliser against Juventus that the Fiorentina midfielder tried to slap the referee in his sleep.

The Bianconeri emerged 1-0 winners thanks to an Adrien Rabiot header, but VAR intervened to disallow two goals by mere millimetres, one for Dusan Vlahovic and the other for Castrovilli.

His strike would’ve been the equaliser and a great way to mark his return from a long lay-off with a serious knee injury, so he was rather understandably upset.

However, his wife Rachele Risaliti reveals just how much the incident plagued on his subconscious, as it even took a starring role in his dream.

“Last night Castrovilli was dreaming about VAR and the disallowed goal and slapped me in my sleep, he thought I was the referee. I was speechless,” she wrote on her Instagram Stories.

At least she saw the funny side of it and one would hope Castrovilli will keep any attacking of the referee to his dream life.

It isn’t the first time that wives of players have explained the difficulties of living with a professional, as some told of their husbands re-enacting goals in their sleep.
