Roma's Leandro Castan will undergo neurosurgery today and won't be back on the pitch for up to eight months.

Castan, who was seen by many as Roma's first choice in defence since the departure of Mehdi Benatia, was diagnosed recently with a brain malformation.

Today the Brazilian will undergo surgery in Rome to remove the cavernoma discovered, after which he will remain in the clinic for another week.
