Tommaso Ghirardi hopes both Antonio Cassano and Gabriel Paletta stay put at Parma, whilst he pays tribute to Antonio Conte.

The Ducali have seen both Cassano and Paletta linked with moves away from the Ennio Tardini this summer following strong performances in the 2013-14 campaign that earned them both spots in Italy’s World Cup squad.

For their club President, though, hope is that they both stay.

“Cassano is an important player we have confirmed and who has a two-year contract,” Ghirardi has told reporters today.

“I hope that he will remain. I am proud to have a player like him. I am sure he will stay with us.

“Paletta? He has many offers, but has had so for the past two years. But, no-one has yet to present to us the right offer and as long as this does not happen, he will remain with us.”

Ghirardi, who was at the League offices today for the latest meeting between club Presidents, refused to commit on who he’d support for the FIGC presidency, but chose to comment on the news this week that saw Juventus part company with Antonio Conte.

“It’s a shame, because in him departs a great sportsman, an important technician and I hope to see him again soon.

“Perhaps in the national team, as he is one of the best candidates.”
