Antonio Cassano thought Zlatan Ibrahimovic was Milan’s only star but he did praise the work of Paolo Maldini and the club’s management.

The Rossoneri sit top of the Serie A table after 35 games and only two wins away from securing their first Scudetto in a decade. The team have undergone an incredible transformation under Stefano Pioli in the last few years and many have praised the club’s management for their smart work on the transfer market.

Speaking on BoboTV, Cassano discussed Milan’s lack of stars and praised Maldini’s work strengthening the squad.

“Milan, excluding Ibrahimovic, don’t have stars. But I want to pay a compliment to someone who is not a friend of mine, Maldini.

“He never appears, he speaks little and nothing, but the work he’s done in getting Tonali back, getting Theo, sending Donnarumma away with a wonderful statement and getting Maignan…

“Who knew Kalulu? Where did Tomori go? Saelemaekers who knew him? When they say you have to pay your dues, he hasn’t done it, but he’s an intelligent guy who has been given a responsibility that he has always asked for.

“He has shown that he is a great sporting director. Above all, he has no money: with money from City, PSG, Barcelona and Real Madrid it’s easy.”

Maldini is set to be given significantly more resources to work with in the transfer market as Bahraini investment fund Investcorp are currently in the process of completing a $1.1 billion takeover from Elliott Management.

The Rossoneri will be looking to confirm their growth next season and hopefully make stronger inroads in Europe as well.
