Roma are edging closer to a deal with Valencia for Gonçalo Guedes, which could be struck for €20m plus Carles Perez.

The initial reports emerged last night from Spain that Guedes had put in a transfer request to leave Valencia, despite the arrival of new coach Gennaro Gattuso.

He is pushing for the exit and wants the opportunity to work with Jose Mourinho at the Stadio Olimpico.

The asking price set by Valencia is circa €40m, but the Portugal international attacking wide man could be available in a far cheaper deal.

Il Tempo newspaper maintain that would be possible by including Carles Perez as part of an exchange along with €20m cash.

Guedes scored 11 goals and provided six assists this season in 36 LaLiga appearances for Valencia and the club needs to get some fresh funds by June 30 to balance the books.

The 25-year-old plays primarily on the left side of attack, but can also work behind the striker or on the right.

He has seven goals in 31 senior caps for Portugal.
