Francesco Caputo is heading back to Empoli in an intriguing exchange deal sending Sam Lammers to Sampdoria.

Multiple sources including Sky Sport Italia, Sportitalia and Tuttomercatoweb all confirm the deal could be completed within 24 hours.

It represents a return to the Stadio Castellani for 35-year-old Caputo, who shot to fame with Empoli from 2017 to 2019 before moving on to Sassuolo and then Samp.

Ciccio Caputo scored 43 goals in 80 official matches for Empoli.

He has struggled along with all of the Blucerchiati so far this season, managing two goals in 17 games between Serie A and the Coppa Italia.

This deal is expected to be a loan with option to buy at the end of the season, becoming an obligation to buy if Empoli secure their top flight status.

At that point, Caputo would sign a two-year contract with the Tuscans.

As for Lammers, the 25-year-old Dutchman is still owned by Atalanta, who simply transfer the loan over to Sampdoria rather than Empoli for the next six months.

He has one goal and one assist in 14 Serie A games this season.
