Italo Galbiati, Fabio Capello’s assistant, has backed the Italian tactician over his decision to quit the England national side.
The 65-year-old resigned on Wednesday after the controversy surrounding John Terry and the England captaincy.

“I think he made the right choice,” Galbiati, 74, told calciomercato.it on Thursday afternoon.
“The English FA didn’t behave correctly towards him. Fabio should have decided who should have worn the armband.
“There is regret and disappointment – I’ve been by his side at Milan, Roma, Juventus” data-scaytid=”8″>Juventus and Real Madrid before England.
“We did well, the only bad note was the World Cup in South Africa where we were penalised by certain situations.”
England are now left without a permanent boss ahead of the European Championship, but Galbiati thinks he knows who will follow in Fabio’s footsteps.
“They want an English Coach and not a foreign one,” he continued. “The Press attacked Fabio when he didn’t win, but the fans at Wembley never whistled him.
“I think the next manager will be Harry Redknapp – the situation seems clear.”
However, the former Inter and Lecco player feels that Capello has left England with something to build on.
“Fabio leaves behind a united squad. He’s given them a certain mentality and he’s launched some interesting youngsters.
“England, if they continue the work of Fabio, can have a great future. They have some promising young players.
“Fabio’s own future? It’s too soon. Let’s leave things as they are for a minute.”
